A free all-day music festival will be held inside a new Crewe town centre venue this weekend - organised by a bar inside Crewe Market Hall.

The Crewe Dog will be hosting Dog Day Afternoon this Saturday (July 2) - running from 1pm until 10pm.

Nine music bands will be performing inside Crewe Central across the day.

This starts at 2:15pm with music group, Cheap Vodka, and runs all the way to 10pm with headline act Deja Vega.

"We wanted to put on a free event to say thank you to all of our customers who have been behind us since the start, so what better way than to put on some really cool independent bands, says owner of The Crewe Dog, Chris Mundie.

The Crewe Dog was the first trader to sign up for Crewe Market Hall when it opened last spring.

It has gone from strength-to-strength, opening a new vinyl and craft beer shop in the market hall - back in April.

Mr Mundie, told Nub News: "We are all music fans and our other bars are also independent music venues.

"At Crewe we solely operate the bar and the entertainment is run by the Market Hall itself, so we approached them about putting on a free music festival with some really cool original bands.

"As it's going to be a bit louder than the average gig in the Market Hall, we are running it outside in the new Crewe Central area."

Nine music acts will perform inside the former outdoor covered markets, Crewe Central, this weekend (Ryan Parker).

Crewe Central is an expansion of Crewe Market Hall, held in the former covered outdoor markets.

The venue officially opened on Friday (June 17) alongside The Kennel Bar - an expansion of The Crewe Dog inside the market hall.

Mr Mundie added: "We are hoping that this will act as a blueprint for Crewe Central as an event and other people will follow suit and use the space for their events.

"The market management are really keen to work with people on outside events, so we are hoping this will be the first of many.

"On the day, we hope folk will come down and check out some great bands and enjoy a few drinks with us and some excellent food from all our comrades in the market hall."

"To sum it up, it'll be noisy but nice."

Last week, Crewe Central held a live screening of the Glastonbury festival across the weekend.

Visitors enjoyed the festival with drinks from The Kennel Bar and food from inside the hall.

Last week The Crewe Dog posted on social media about the upcoming festival, saying: "We are having our big party, all the bands are good to go and we can't wait.

"If you weren't aware we are throwing a shindig for you and it's all totally free, which is nuts when you look at the lineup, come join us and have a great time."

The Kennel Bar, Crewe Central. The new bar opened on June 17 and is open every Friday to Sunday (The Crewe Dog).

The Kennel Bar is open inside Crewe Central 5pm to 10pm on Fridays, 1pm to 10pm on Saturdays and 1pm to 6pm on Sundays.

Visitors to the Dog Day Afternoon can just turn up at Crewe Central this Saturday and enjoy the event.
