New craft beer and vinyl record store to open in Crewe
A craft beer bar in Crewe is expanding to open a new bottled beer and vinyl records shop - a first of its kind for the town.
The Doghouse Craft Beer & Record Shop will open within Crewe Market Hall on Wednesday 13 April.
The project is an expansion of The Crewe Dog, already within the market - opening inside a new separate unit.
"We are expanding into a stand alone record and bottle shop due to the demand we have seen with takeaway beers from the bar," says General Manager of The Crewe Dog, Louis Delaney.
Currently, there are no record stores in Crewe.
The Crewe Dog has picked up on this quickly during its time trading in the town.
The new store aims to fill the void of a lack of record shops in Crewe, by offering modern and vintage vinyl as well as a raft of music memorabilia and merchandise.
Mr Delaney told Nub News: "With such a varied craft beer market now in Crewe, it made sense to up our offering.
"The record side of it came from a fever dream idea of what would be the coolest shop we could open?"
The Crewe Dog were the first traders to sign up for Crewe Market Hall last year - establishing itself as a market favourite with Crewe customers.
The bar's quality was recognised by industry chiefs as the bar received the South Cheshire Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA)'s Special Award for New Real Ale Outlet in 2022.
Mr Delaney said: "Crewe have been great to us since we opened up. We've established connections with the locals and keep striving to offer more.
"We've also worked alongside local brewery Tom's Tap to put in a permanent line of Crewe's Control, our collaboration tropical pale ale.
"In our new shop, customers can expect to see over 200 different beers from across the world, alongside 500 plus records spanning every genre from punk to soul/jazz to classic albums."
Mr Delaney plans to run both the new store and The Crewe Dog himself.
The manager told Nub News his top five favourite records were: Definitely Maybe, by Oasis, This is it, by The Strokes, American Beauty, by The Grateful Dead, No Control, by Bad Religion and Demmamussabebonk, by Snuff.
He said: "Our store is influenced by our love for craft beer and records. The lack of a record store in Crewe is a real shame, its a massively musical town and the record fair is always busy.
"We thought if we can offer a permanent record store alongside craft beer, it'll cater for everyone."
The craft beer and record shop will sell more than 200 take away beers and ales from around the world.
Mr Delaney said: "We love being a part of Crewe Market Hall, the team are great and we have made long standing connections with other traders.
"It's a real gem in Crewe now. It shows when the house is packed out by 6pm on a Friday night."
Operators of Crewe Market Hall, Market Asset Management, oversaw a £3.4m revamp - as part of Cheshire East Council's town centre regeneration programme.
Mr Delaney added: "The town centre plans will only develop the town and put it back on the map.
"It's been too long that Crewe has been neglected and it's nice to see it getting some money spent on it - in the correct ways.
"The market will grow and adapt over time, we are just happy to be along for the ride."
The Doghouse Craft Beer & Record Shop plan to open from 9:30am until 6pm every Wednesday to Sunday.
