Crewe Alexandra have revealed they talked about moving the stadium to Crewe town centre - following the potential of HS2 taking over the land.
On Monday (May 30), Crewe Alexandra club chairman Charles Grant spoke to The Railwaymen Podcast in its 100th episode to review the 2021/22 season.
The weekly podcast looks into all things Crewe Alex, including reviews, previews and club news.
The chairman appointed in August 2021, discussed things about the club on and off the field, including the new management team and agents.
He also looked at what needed to change for the upcoming season.
Included in the podcast, was the talk of a potential new stadium for Crewe Alexandra Football Club.
Charles Grant, 67, told the Railwaymen Podcast: "We have to look at things like our ground, "HS2 is coming and there was a thought that the ground would perhaps have to move.
"We went through an aborted process of talking about whether the ground would move to the centre of Crewe, where there is a big hole at the moment.
"That probably won't happen, but we can do things with the ground that we have now, as HS2 comes along.
"This is not for now or tomorrow, its for the next year and the year after."
HS2 is expected to arrive in Crewe between around 2033 - aiming to deliver the quietest and most energy efficient high-speed trains operating in the world.
The 225mph bullet-style trains will make travel between the town and the capital possible in less than an hour.
Mr Grant added: "HS2 will bring some changes. There are things that I would like to do with the stadium, if it isn't moving, it certainly isn't going down the A500 or anything like that.
"It would only move if it was good for the community, whether that is the council or the people of Crewe.
"If the stadium is staying where it is now and I think it probably will, we will look how we can improve it, with better facilities for our fans and for off-field activities.
"All these things take time. Of course you have to get the initial money to go down that path."
The club chairman said that the past season was 'really tough' for everyone associated with the club.
He told the podcast that the board always considers fan views, regularly reading fans opinions regarding the club and considering what they say.
New manager Alex Morris looks to boost fans morale for the upcoming season - already making three signings this summer.
Defensive midfielder, Conor Thomas, right-back Kelvin Mellor and forward Courtney Baker-Richardson who signed yesterday (May 31), have all penned deals with The Railwaymen before pre-season commences.
Crewe Alexandra kick off their season back in League Two on July 30.
