Crewe gears up for huge Platinum Jubilee park event this week
The Queens Park Platinum Jubilee celebration event is all set for this extended bank holiday - including a huge lineup of musicians and classic cars.
This free event will take place this Friday (June 3), consisting of two headline acts, Tumblin' Dance and The Gospel Truth Soul Band.
There are also 60 confirmed stalls and attractions, plus food and drink outlets.
This includes: a variety of classic vehicles, stunt acts, live music, face painting and sports activities.
The event is being organised by the Friends of Queen's Park, a voluntary group who work in the park all year round.
Secretary for Friends of Queens Park, Sheila Blackburn told Nub News: "We are very excited to be able to arrange this celebration for the Queen's 70th Jubilee in the town's beautiful award winning park - originally dedicated to Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee.
"Crewe residents and visitors will be able to enjoy a memorable day from 11am until 6pm, including live music, arena attractions, children's entertainers, dance and gymnastic displays, stalls, exhibits and much more.
"There will be a Fancy Dress Parade, be a Queen or King for the Day and a dog show, 'Paws in the Park.'
"We are pleased to be working with several community groups, including Crewe Lions, Creative Crewe, students from Crewe Design and Engineering UTC and several local Primary Schools.
"We give our thanks to our generous sponsors."
Roger Bell, band member of Rolling Stones tribute band Tumblin' Dice, told Nub News: "We are all very honoured to play at Queens Park, it will be a great event.
"We have quite a bit of a following around Crewe and have been musicians for a long time.
"I am 65 and the youngest in the band. We all jump around like idiots, you wouldn't think we are the ages that we are."
Mr Bell lives in Crewe as well as two of the other four band members.
Tumblin' Dice started back in 2006 and perform around Crewe venues, such as The Raven, The Cosey Club, The Coppenhall Club, The Rising Sun Vaults and in Shavington.
The performer added: "I am a royalist and the Platinum Jubilee means a lot to me.
"I think this is a wonderful event that brings back shades of the old Crewe carnival from many years ago.
"The town needs something to be proud of and Queens Park is one of those things to be proud of.
"I bring my granddaughter here often when I see her, It's a beautiful place. Let's hope the weather is good to us."
Tumblin' Dice will be performing on the stage from 5pm until 6pm. This will be following The Gospel Truth Soul Band who are on stage from 3:30pm to 4:30pm.
Lead Vocalist of The Gospel Truth Soul Band, Nikki Hicks said: "We are honoured to be performing at Queens Park for Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee Celebrations.
"The band performs throughout the North West/ Midlands with an eclectic mix of Motown and Northern Soul songs.
"We pride ourselves on replicating songs from the 60s and 70s that strike at the heart of every Northern Soul/ Motown fan.
The Gospel Truth Soul Band are now one of the most popular bands of their kind in North Staffordshire and Cheshire.
The band also consists of bass player Dean, lead guitarist Ted and drummer Ron.
Mrs Hicks added: "Do not miss the opportunity to experience our fantastic musical extravaganza on such an historical event where we aim to create an atmosphere that people will remember for many years to come."
