Cheshire East Council has constructed a new metal safety fence between a Crewe footpath and drop down to a local brook - following four years of campaigning from parish councillors.

The new fence has been erected between the footpath and drop down to Valley Brook (the River Waldron) by Bluebell Woods, off Middlewich Road.

Woolstanwood Parish Councillors have bene campaigning for the new safety fence on the Crewe to Nantwich greenway for four years.

After four years of campaigning from Woolstanwood Parish Council, the new safety fence has been constructed (Cllr Brian Silvester).

Woolstanwood Cllr, Philip Williams said," Well done to the Councillors from the Minshull Vernon and District Parish Council for doggedly pursuing the reinstatement of this safety fence, on one of the busiest roads into Crewe.

"Everything comes to those who wait."

Valley Brook flows under the A530 Middlewich Road, Crewe, connecting with the River Weaver close to Worleston.

Woolstanwood Cllr, Brian Silvester said: "The old stone fence was very low and there was a severe danger that a pedestrian would fall into the brook.

"The temporary safety fencing the Cheshire East Borough Council erected was an eyesore and was there far too long. Thankfully it has now been done and looks good."

Pictures show the new metal and wooden fencing, with the low stone wall still in place behind it.

Woolstanwood Cllr. Terry Piper said, "My only concern is that the metal railings have not been extended either side, as wooden fences don't last too long locally.

Cheshire East Council has constructed the new safety fence on the Crewe public footpath (Cllr Brian Silvester).

"However, it's good that the worst part is now protected.

"It finally feels like we've been heard after four years."
