Stolen car 'set on fire' after being abandoned in Crewe woodland
Cheshire Police are investigating a deliberate car fire incident after it was stolen from a Crewe service station and abandoned in woodland within the town.
At around 6:18pm on Monday 13 November, officers received reports of a black Kia Ceed being stolen from Queens Park Service Station, Victoria Avenue.
Later that evening, officers were told a vehicle had been abandoned and set on fire within woodland on Valley Road, opposite The Woodside pub.
Police attended the scene to manage traffic and identified the vehicle to be the stolen Kia.
A search of the local area was conducted to trace the thief, but it was unsuccessful.
A Cheshire Police spokesperson told Nub News: "At around 6:18pm on Monday 13 November, officers attended Queens Park Service Station, following reports a black Kia Ceed had been stolen by an unknown individual.
"Later that evening, officers were notified by fire services a vehicle had been set on fire Valley Road, Crewe.
"Officers attended the scene and identified it was the same vehicle that had been stolen earlier in the evening.
"Firefighters quickly controlled the fire and search of the nearby area was then conducted, but the driver of the vehicle could not be located.
"Enquiries in relation to its origin are currently ongoing and anyone with any information should contact www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us, quoting IML-1690305."
One fire engine from Crewe dealt with the stolen car blaze, putting it out with a hose reel jet.
The vehicle was then removed by a recovery vehicle, leaving a charred floor.
A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: "The crew attended the scene to find a suspected abandoned car on fire.
"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to put the fire out.
"There were no reported casualties at the scene.
"Firefighters handed the incident over to the police for investigation."
