The name of the free agent currently training with Crewe Alex FC has been confirmed as a former loan player and Tottenham Hotspur winger.

J'Neil Bennett, 21, has been taking part in sessions at Reaseheath since last week, vying to earn himself a deal with The Railwaymen.

Bennett came on loan to Crewe in the 2021-22, making 11 appearances in League One, scoring his only goal against Burton Albion.

The winger was released by Tottenham in 2022 and joined Brentford B last year.

He was released by The Bees at the end of last season and has been without a club since.

Manager, Lee Bell, told Crewe Alexandra's website: "He has not played much football, so we are trying to get him to a point where we feel he might be able to get on the pitch for us.

"We have to do some work with him and gradually build him up. We will take it from there."

"There are just not that many free agents out there.

"Of the few there are, some don't really need to come back into football while in a couple of other cases it has been hard work to get players to come and train with us.

After drawing 2-2 at Mornflake Stadium, Crewe Alex travel to face Derby County on Tuesday 14 November in an FA Cup round one replay (Ryan Parker).

"We are not overly-concerned, the break at the weekend will do us good and hopefully allow us to get one or two closer to a return to action."
