Crewe campaigners raised awareness for an under-threat peat bog at a council meeting yesterday.
The Cheshire East Council meeting saw The Save Danes Moss Community Group with pickets and posters outside.
The group joined forces with Sustainable Nantwich and Green Party members today to greet and inform over 70 attendees at the Cheshire East Council meeting at the Moss Square place of leisure.
They are campaigning to prevent the South Macclesfield Development Area being developed on, with over 950 houses planned on the fringes of the Danes Moss Nature Reserve. A link road also sets to cut through the site, releasing peat.
The site has been described by campaigners as 'Cheshire East's Amazon rainforest', due to an estimated 220,000 tonnes of carbon locked inside the site's peat bogs, which if release, could further contribute to climate change.
The proposed site, while 19 miles from Crewe, could affect air quality and biodiversity for everyone.
In a joint statement, the 30-strong campaigners said: "We received a warm welcome from Mayor and Shavington Cllr David Marren," they said.
"Many congratulations on our successful Campaign progress to date from interested Cheshire residents. Our campaign petition is currently at over 18,000 signatures, and has been signed by TV's Chris Packham. You can add yours here.
"We've also started a Legal and Restoration Fund is attracting donations UK - wide. You can donate here.
"You can also visit our stand at Hen Harrier Fest, Adlington Hall Sunday July 24 to learn more about the Campaign and what you can do to support us!
"Please head to our website for more information."
Cheshire East Council are part-landowners of the site, and campaigners argue they will gain £18 million from turning the site into almost 1000 houses.
Councillors will vote on the site's future later this year. Crewe's Cheshire East Councillors will be contacted for comment.
Cheshire East Council have also been contacted for comment.
