You don't build a stronger economy without investing in young people was the message at the heart of 'Powering Crewe's Future', a business engagement event in support of the town's new Dome Youth Zone.

With long-term unemployment in Crewe currently twice the national average, the event, hosted by Bill Holroyd CBE DL, founder of the national OnSide Youth Zones network, highlighted the vital role businesses can play in helping young people develop the confidence, skills and aspirations needed to strengthen Crewe's future workforce.

The event, held at Cheshire College South & West, was attended by representatives from businesses across Crewe, including AO, Bentley Motors and Radius, Founder Patrons already supporting The Dome.

They joined trustees, supporters and partners of The Dome to discuss their shared role in shaping the next generation of local talent.

Throughout the afternoon, after a lunch served by Cheshire College's Academy Students, discussions centred on one clear principle: The Dome is far more than a youth facility. It is long-term social and economic infrastructure for Crewe.

By helping young people prepare for education, training and employment, The Dome will create stronger pathways into work while helping develop the skilled workforce local businesses will rely on in the years ahead.

When it opens in winter 2026, The Dome will provide young people with access to sport, music, creative arts, enterprise, mentoring, employability support and wellbeing programmes in a safe, inspirational environment.

Chief Executive of The Dome, Stuart Manifould, said: "It was incredibly encouraging to see so many businesses recognising that The Dome is much more than a youth facility. It's an investment in the future success of our town.

"Even before opening, businesses are already opening their doors to young people through workplace tours, careers talks, mentoring and industry insight. It's a fantastic example of what can be achieved when businesses and youth work come together around a shared purpose.

"Together, we're helping build the confidence, skills and aspirations that will power Crewe's future."

Businesses interested in finding out more about The Dome, arranging a visit or exploring how they can support the next generation are encouraged to contact the team or visit HERE.

Whether through mentoring, work experience, volunteering, fundraising or becoming a Founder Patron, every partnership will help build brighter futures for young people and help power Crewe's future.

Bill Holroyd said: "Across the country we've seen Youth Zones become catalysts for positive change, improving life chances while strengthening communities and local economies.

"The Dome represents a landmark opportunity for Crewe. It is an investment that will benefit not only today's young people, but generations to come."

This must be a completely different "Bentley" than the one that's laying off a pile of workers. One that has no understanding of the word "irony".
