A beloved Crewe bike shop has closed down after 35 years, as its owner enjoys a richly deserved retirement.

Supreme Cycles, Earle Street (bordering the bridge), closed its doors for the final time on Sunday 13 July.

Operated by Wistaston resident, Les Rees, since 1991, the family cycling centre sold new and second-hand bikes for men, women and kids, as well as bike accessories, servicing/repairs and advice.

After trading across four decades, Les has hanged up his helmet for good to enjoy a new chapter beyond work.

Les said: "A big thank you for all your cards and well wishes.

"A big thank you for all your custom in the last 35 years.

"I have loved every minute and made loads of new friends. Thank you again."

The site of Supreme Cycles was a bike shop for more than 105 years, with Les taking over the building in the early 1990s.

Crewe West councillor (Labour) and cycle enthusiast, Ben Wye, who was a regular customer, said: "Supremes cycles opened on 1 July 1919, then a Works Holiday week. Les took it over in 1991.

Crewe West councillor (Labour) and cycle enthusiast, Ben Wye, praises Les Rees for his running of Supreme Cycles for 35 years (CEC).

"Many will remember waking up on Christmas Day to a new bicycle that Les would deliver in the early hours to ensure it was a surprise.

"I have bought all our bikes from him, and will not just miss his excellent repair service, but his friendship and stories of past customers.

"He will be much missed, I wish him a very happy and long retirement."
