Fifth 'Andrew Scoffin Memorial Match' at Crewe Alex raises thousands for cancer charity

The fifth 'Andrew Scoffin Memorial Match' took place at Crewe Alexandra Football Club on Sunday 18 May, with the event kindly sponsored by Mornflake, My Cab and ECS.
The first match, in May 2021, was organised by Crewe Alexandra FC stadium announcer and lifelong fan, Andrew Scoffin, to raise funds for The Christie.
Sadly, Andrew passed away later that year in July after a long battle with cancer.

Organised by Andrew's two sons, Ashley and Warren Scoffin, The Andrew Scoffin Memorial Match raises money for Macmillan Cancer Support, supporting people with cancer emotionally, physically, and financially.
There was a minute's applause prior to kick-off in memory of Andrew, with all the match officials and players standing around the centre circle.
Players paid £20 each to play with the game consisting of 45 minutes each way.
The teams were split into 'Crewe Alex Home Shirts past and present' and 'Crewe Alex Away Shirts past and present' and were captained by Warren and Ashley respectively.
Crewe Alex Home Shirts past and present team consisted of: James Dodd (goalkeeper), Tommy Bilborough (second captain), Kevin Beresford, Andy Stubbs, Lewis Williams, Daniel Wood, Phil Ray, Warren Scoffin (captain), Martin Caldwell, Neil Bergin, Andy Clews, Charlie Malam, David Hulme (second goalkeeper), Alex Bazley, Sam Owen, Ben Gilbert, Alex Murrell, Cameron Rodgers, Nick Lewis-White, Dave Adams, Tyler Birtles, Tom Carless.

Alex Away Shirts won 4-3 in a tight game, with winning team captain, Ashley, receiving the Andrew Scoffin Memorial Trophy. All players received a Macmillan Cancer Support medal.
The game raised £3,357 of much needed funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Warren said: "Well done to Ashley for yet another win, winning by four goals to three, if we had 5 more minutes, I think we would have pinched it.
"Once again, I would like to thank Crewe Alexandra Football Club for the use of the facilities, means a lot to be back.

"I am not going to singularly name everyone because there is too many to mention, but thank you to each and every one of you who still make this happen, and keeps the match alive and kicking for the old man.
"Good turn on spectators again and a massive £590 was raised in bucket collections on the night, which is our largest amount for on the night so far. This gives us a final figure of £3,357 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
"Here's to yet another successful year. Hopefully, we go again next year. Thank you everyone."
