CREWE Railroaders American Football Team have not let the lockdown stop them preparing for the new season.

The coaching staff have kept the players busy by hosting online sessions, quizzes and fund-raising challenges.

The club's first challenge was to see how many press-ups could be completed in two minutes.

Railroaders Head Coach Jason Smith said: "We decided that we would use these challenges to raise funds for local charities.

"We chose the Trussell Trust Food Bank, who supply food support to local families who are struggling in these difficult times, and between us we managed to raise £245.

"The Railroaders are proud to help others in our community less fortunate than ourselves."

New team member Patrick won the first challenge by completing 106 press-ups. Now the American footballers are planning future challenges to support Leighton Hospital's ICU department by collecting funds for its hard- working hospital staff.

You can watch and join in with the challenges on the club's Instagram page and Tiktok.

After the 2020 season was shelved, the Railroaders did make a return to non-contact training before the November lockdown was imposed. Since then plans for a May start for the 2021 British American Football League campaign have been put on hold.

If you are interested in joining the team, contact the coaches through the Crewe Railroaders website.
