DAVE Artell admitted it wasn't "vintage" Crewe even though the Alex boss can't argue with the stats which see his side climbing the table.
Oli Finney's stoppage-time winner at Plough Lane - an immediate response to AFC Wimbledon's last-minute leveller from Ryan Longman - takes Crewe up to ninth and only three points off a League One play-off place.
That's three consecutive wins, four wins from the last five and unbeaten in those games to boot, it's such an impressive run that the low quality fare on offer on Crewe's first visit to Wimbledon's new home will be quickly forgotten.
"I don't think anyone saw that ending coming after we had been in control of the game," said Artell. "We got the goal, but it affected us more than it affected them. We stopped passing the ball and Wimbledon seized on that.
"This is a tough place to come and at times we didn't deal with it well. But we came out of our shell again and you can take nothing away from the boys that's three wins in a week, although it wasn't vintage us.
"Coming here and stretching our unbeaten run is no mean feat, it feels like a proper victory.
"After we conceded, we started playing again and Chris Porter produced a fantastic header and we have been on at Oli to score more goals with the chances he gets."
Crewe had the best sights of goal in a low-key first half with matchwinner Finney volleying a Harry Pickering cross over.
Pickering was involved again when Mikael Mandron struck on the hour mark with the striker bundling in from close range.
That looked to have been sufficient to win the contest, until the Dons stirred into life in the closing minutes. Will Nightingale headed over before Longman got in behind to slot the equaliser in the last minute.
Yet there was still time for Finney to finish off Porter's knockdown in stoppage time.
AFC Wimbledon boss Glyn Hodges lamented his side's defending and said they were caught out by a classic sucker punch.
"We needed the effort to come from a goal down and score and when we did I was thinking we were going to go on and win. I didn't expect the sucker punch and it is tough to take," said Hodges.
"It was frustrating because defending is something we have worked on, but we will have to revisit and I find that a bit boring. If you don't understand that you have to certain things at certain times it makes life difficult."
