A passionate Crewe man has delivered a record-breaking Co-op food donation load to the town's food bank - via his bicycle.
For many years the food bank at St Pauls Centre, Hightown, has been distributing food to those in crisis.
Normally their van picks up donations from shops and churches around Crewe.
Since COVID lockdown, Co-op Member Pioneer, Ben Wye, has been voluntarily collecting food from the customers and staff from the Shavington and Wistaston Co-ops on his bicycle.
On Friday (January 27), he broke his cargo record of 97kg of food.
Ben told Nub News "It's the best way to travel in Crewe as its free and keeps me fit.
"Cycling does not add to the pollution or traffic jams, you can push it through road closures so it is often the quickest way to travel."
Ben supports Active Crewe Travel who are in discussions with Cheshire East Highways to create safer direct walking and cycling routes.
The Crewe West councillor added: "The current 'Your Street Your Say' consultation simply allows anyone to say how they want their area roads to look.
"Unfortunately some mistakenly claim that this is about banning cars, which is simply impossible.
"This is about giving anyone the right to travel freely on safe, attractive, quieter roads.
"Nearly one third of Crewe households do not have a car, or live within two kilometres of work.
"Many schoolchildren and vulnerable road users do not walk or ride because of traffic danger, and this is a chance to bid for government funding to make traveling around 'good for you, and good for Crewe."
