The Crewe Prize Draw, supported by Swansway Motor Group, has presented its first charity cheque, with Hopes & Beams on Broad Street receiving over £650 to help support children and young adults with disabilities across the town.

The donation comes after just the first two prize draws and, in a remarkable coincidence, staff at the charity discovered they already knew the latest £1,500 winner.

When Linda Green, from Shavington, was announced as the latest winner of the £1,500 prize, Kate Shackleton of Hopes & Beams immediately recognised the name.

Linda's daughter attended Hopes & Beams for a number of years, while Kate's husband also worked alongside Linda's late husband.

Kate said: "It was really lovely to see someone with a connection to the charity win the big prize."

The £652.13 donation will help Hopes & Beams continue providing sports, arts, educational activities and social opportunities for children and young adults with disabilities and additional needs across Crewe and Cheshire.

Kate said: "When Karl told us how much had already been raised we were absolutely delighted. Every penny makes a huge difference to the children and families we support.

"The fact that one of the winners also has a connection with Hopes & Beams made it even more special. It really shows how local the Crewe Prize Draw is."
