The Crewe West Labour councillor thought the opposite and told Nub News yesterday:

"This summer has been signified by Tory leadership contenders taking lumps out of each other and their own record in government.

"While that criticism may be valid, it has delivered nothing for the millions of people all over the country who still face huge uncertainty as to what this winter will have in store for them in this cost of living crisis.

"A victory for Liz Truss tells us that the Conservative party simply does not understand the scale of the challenge facing people today.

"Nobody I speak mentions tax cuts. In fact it is in a moment of crisis like we are facing now that people want to see the value of their taxes by putting them to work for working people.

Crewe West Labour councillor, Connor Naismith, believes a victory for Liz Truss tells us the Conservative party does not understand the scale of the challenge people are facing today (Connor Naismith).

"What have our taxes been doing in recent years under this government?

"Being lost to Covid fraudsters and given away in bogus contracts to Conservative party donors and school friends of Tory ministers.

"We urgently need the government to intervene in a meaningful way to alleviate the pressure on people, and nothing I have seen so far suggests we are going to see anything but more of the same from this latest Prime Minister.

"Labour has a plan to tackle the cost of living crisis which would include freezing the price cap, meaning people wouldn't pay a penny more this winter funded by a windfall tax on oil and gas profits.

"Britain needs a fresh start after 12 years of Tory failure."

Liz Truss will be formally named the new Prime Minister today (September 6) - by the Queen (Wikimedia Commons).
