Work has started on a new breakfast and lunch bar, targeting to open opposite Crewe Alex FC next month.

Benny's Breakfast & Lunch Bar, Gresty Road, is planning to open this February, with new signage put on the building.

Operated by Margaret Kilgannon, the business replaces Benny's Fish & Chips, which closed down last May.

In November, Margaret told Nub News: "I am so glad to be coming back. I had no choice but to close the chip shop when my nephew wanted to leave and I couldn't do the job on my own.

"I didn't want to put any pressure on the husband training someone else up when he's so busy in Benny's on Readesdale Avenue.

"I have had a really tough few months feeling like I had let all my lovely customers who supported myself in the chip shop down.

"Now, I am coming back into doing something I can do without relying on anyone apart from the husband on match days.

Benny's will have a new indoor seating area for customers when it reopens on Gresty Road.

Margaret said: "I will be serving breakfasts, breakfast baps, toasties, jacket potatoes and burgers.

"There will also be all the chip shop stuff, like fishcakes, sausages, curry, gravy, doner meat, salt and pepper chicken, crispy chicken breast bites and cheesy chips.

"Benny's will offer a variety of hot and cold drinks, as well as selling lots of lovely cakes.

"I am not doing fresh fish because I have a serious allergy to it and I won't have a fryer man to do all the fish preparation.

Benny's Breakfast & Lunch Bar is planning to open 7:30am until 3pm (Tuesday to Saturday), with the business opening for Crewe Alex matches (Benny's).

"It is best not to do it if I can't do it myself."
