Crewe's top-rated fish and chip shop 'permanently' closes down
A top-rated traditional Crewe fish and chip shop has 'permanently' closed down - after the food business was recently put up for sale.
Benny's Fish & Chips, opposite Crewe Alexandra FC, Gresty Road, switched its fryers off for good on Thursday 18 May.
The Crewe chip shop had been in business since June 2018 - operated by Margaret Kilgannon.
Benny's, Gresty Road, was the town's top-rated food takeaway business on Google - receiving a rating of 4.9/5 from 171 reviews.
This spring, Benny's and the entire terraced property was put up for sale by Whitegates - for offers of over £150,000.
The Crewe chip shop confirmed its "sooner than expected" closure with a poster placed in the shop window last week (May 18).
The poster reads: "Benny's Fish & Chips, Gresty Road, have decided to close our shop permanently (sooner than expected).
"We thank you for your support over the past five years.

"We hope you will pop down and try our other shop: Benny's, The Precinct, Readesdale Avenue."
In November 2020, Benny's expanded to open its second chippy on The Precinct, Readesdale Avenue.
This May, Benny's confirmed to Nub News its Wistaston shop will permanently remain open - despite the closure of Gresty Road.
Benny's, Readesdale Avenue, is open 11:30am to 2:00pm (Monday to Saturday) and 4:30pm and to 9:00pm (Monday to Saturday).
