Crewe's top-rated fish and chip shop 'permanently' closes down

A top-rated traditional Crewe fish and chip shop has 'permanently' closed down - after the food business was recently put up for sale.

Benny's Fish & Chips, opposite Crewe Alexandra FC, Gresty Road, switched its fryers off for good on Thursday 18 May.

The Crewe chip shop had been in business since June 2018 - operated by Margaret Kilgannon.

Benny's, Gresty Road, confirmed its 'sooner than expected' closure with a poster placed in the shop window last week - May 18 (Ryan Parker).

Benny's, Gresty Road, was the town's top-rated food takeaway business on Google - receiving a rating of 4.9/5 from 171 reviews.

This spring, Benny's and the entire terraced property was put up for sale by Whitegates - for offers of over £150,000.

The Crewe chip shop confirmed its "sooner than expected" closure with a poster placed in the shop window last week (May 18).

The poster reads: "Benny's Fish & Chips, Gresty Road, have decided to close our shop permanently (sooner than expected).

Benny's, Gresty Road, had been in business since June 2018 - operated by Margaret Kilgannon (Ryan Parker).

"We thank you for your support over the past five years.

"We hope you will pop down and try our other shop: Benny's, The Precinct, Readesdale Avenue."

In November 2020, Benny's expanded to open its second chippy on The Precinct, Readesdale Avenue.

Benny's, Readesdale Avenue, will permanently remain open - despite the closure of Gresty Road (Nub News).

This May, Benny's confirmed to Nub News its Wistaston shop will permanently remain open - despite the closure of Gresty Road.

Benny's, Readesdale Avenue, is open 11:30am to 2:00pm (Monday to Saturday) and 4:30pm and to 9:00pm (Monday to Saturday).
