Eleven walkers are getting ready to scale the heady heights of Snowdon this weekend - to raise money for two stroke groups.

The walkers are taking part in a charity walk on Saturday (July 2nd) to raise funds for Stroke Survivors Speech and Language Support Group in Crewe and Alsager.

Walkers are hoping to raise between £1,000 and £1,500 to help with the work of both groups, the second one which was set up in Alsager last month as detailed HERE.

Founder Liz Bedson, from Crewe, has set up a 'GoFund Me' page for the walk and will be helping to run it while husband, Gary, joins the other ten walkers taking part.

Mrs Bedson told Nub News: "I'm incredibly proud of everyone taking part. It's wonderful to see everyone working together and we've even got a 'ground crew' helping at the bottom.

"The two groups are working well and are a brilliant resource for stroke survivors. It's lovely see people making progress and making good friends.

"This money raised will help us to run the two groups and support the people who come along to use them."

The Groups receive no Statutory Funding. Even £1 helps them to continue supporting Stroke Survivors.

Eleven local walkers will be climbing Snowdon this Saturday - July 2 (Nub News).

Donations for the walk can be made through the GoFund Me page HERE.

Liz added: "We do not receive any central funding from the Government, or other charitable causes so rely on fundraising and kind donations.

"Any funding we receive does go straight towards any activity that we do with our survivors."

Snowdon is the highest mountain in Wales, at an elevation of 1,085 metres above sea level.

The founder of Stroke Survivors Speech & Language Support Group, Crewe is Mrs Liz Bedson (Jonathan White).

It is the highest point in the British Isles outside the Scottish Highlands.

Participants on the Snowdon charity walk, include Chris, aged 55, a stroke survivor himself and Liz's 21-year-old twin son and daughter, Dan and Sophie Hughes.

The Snowdon group also includes a school nurse from Liverpool and 22-year-old Cam who recently became a volunteer for the Crewe group.

The Stroke Survivors Speech & Language Support Groups are based at Union Street Baptist Church, Union Street, Crewe (Tuesdays, 11am) and The Thirteen Club, Alsager (Thursdays, 10.30am).
