Crewe West residents look set to go to the polls again next month (September), voting for a new councillor to represent them on Cheshire East Council.

The seat is up for grabs after former councillor Connor Naismith (Labour), stood down from Cheshire East after being elected as the new MP for Crewe and Nantwich.

Candidates have until 4pm on Thursday 8 August to submit their nomination papers.

Connor Naismith (Labour), stood down from Crewe West after being elected as the new MP for Crewe and Nantwich (Labour Party).

If the election is contested it will take place on Thursday 5 September.

The Conservatives may go into this by-election feeling more confident than might be expected, despite the recent hammering they took in the general election.

The Tories won the last by-election for a Cheshire East Council seat just six months ago.

That, too, was in the traditional Labour stronghold of Crewe when Roger Morris (Conservative), snatched the Crewe Central seat, which became vacant following the resignation of Labour's Anthony Critchley.

Labour, meanwhile, will be hoping to maintain the momentum from their historic general election victory just a month ago.

Crewe West includes Queens Park and West Street (Crewe Town Council).

Nomination papers must be hand-delivered to the returning officer at the elections office at Macclesfield Town Hall on any day, Monday to Friday, between the hours of 10am and 4pm, but not later than 4pm on Thursday 8 August.

Candidates must call: 01270 685922 to make an appointment to deliver their nomination paper.
