Vintage steam engine to make rare visit to Crewe this weekend
A historic record-breaking steam locomotive boasting its own Facebook fan page, will make a rare visit to Crewe on Saturday 1 June.
More than 500 members drool over 'The Earl of Mount Edgcumbe,' built in 1936 to haul Great Western Region expresses.
They regularly publish photos or videos of it in action and one raved: "Best-looking Castle in preservation by far."
The 79-ton loco, with its giant 6'8" wheels, is pulling a special "Mersey Express" train to Liverpool, stopping at Crewe.
Setting out from Tyseley at 9am, The Mersey Express will pick up passengers at Wolverhampton and Stafford before reaching Crewe at 10:50am, stopping at Liverpool for 12:30pm.
The Earl of Mount Edgcumbe will depart from Liverpool at 5pm, arriving back into Crewe for 7:10pm that evening (Tyseley 9pm).
A Vintage Trains spokesperson told Nub News: "The Earl is indeed a majestic steam engine.
"It was the pride of the old Great Western Railway and once held the record for the fastest non-stop journey from Plymouth to Bristol.
"So this should be a wonderful day out on Saturday."
Passengers will be able to tuck into a full English breakfast during the journey to Liverpool, before a four-course dinner is served on the way hone in the evening,
