UPDATE: Asylum seeker remanded in custody following Brighton beach rape

An Iranian asylum seeker living in Crewe has been remanded in custody, after being one of three men charged in connection with the rape of a woman on Brighton beach.

Around 5am on Saturday 4 October, Sussex Police received a report a woman had been raped on the lower esplanade in Brighton.

An investigation was launched, and the 33-year-old victim continues to be supported by specialist officers.

Abdulla Ahmadi, 25, living in Crewe, and Karin Al-Danasurt, 20, and Ibrahim Alshafe, 25, both Eqyptian nationals living in Horsham, were arrested and each charged with two counts of rape.

Sussex Police received a report a woman had been raped on the lower esplanade in Brighton, around 5am on Saturday 4 October (Sussex Police).

The trio were remanded in custody to appear before Brighton Magistrates' Court on Thursday 16 October.

All three men, who the Home Office confirmed as asylum seekers, appeared before the court and have again been remanded in custody.

Ahmadi, Al-Danasurt and Alshafe are now due to appear at Lewes Crown Court on Thursday 13 November.
