Former Crewe tailor's apprentice launches new showroom for Cheshire business
A former Crewe tailor's apprentice is now cutting a dash in the home interiors market - securing a new showroom at a Cheshire business park.
Mark Scott and wife Maxine have kitted out homes and rooms for clients all over the country and the world.
The couple are now helping homeowners and businesses to create stylish interiors with business, The Design House by Interior Motives, Manor Point Business Park, Holmes Chapel.
Mr and Mrs Scott recently opened their new business showroom - more than three decades after the husband left a semi-bespoke gentleman's tailor in Crewe.
Between 1986 and 1989, Mr Scott worked as an apprentice for Chester Barrie, Weston Road - land now occupied by B&Q.
The business owner told Nub News: "Working at Chester Barrie was a very different sort of environment. I had always been interested in clothes and fashion.
"When I left school the options were places like Rolls-Royce and Crewe works - I wanted to take a different career path.
"It was a very diverse environment and I saw a traditional way of garments being made as opposed to how things are mass produced nowadays."
Mr Scott has lived in Sandbach all his life and believes the Crewe apprenticeship gave him skills for the business he runs with his wife today.
Mr Scott said: "The beauty of our business is that everything can be done under one roof.
"We can manage the project from start to finish and provide a service tailored to a client's needs.
"This could be anything from transforming a rustic farmhouse to giving one room in a house or flat a facelift.
"We will do whatever a client needs and work within their budget. We will source everything for them and get it installed, from wallpaper to flooring and lighting."
Mr Scott, who went to Sandbach School went on to become a trainee estate agent in Crewe - before moving into property software as a high-flying sales consultant.
Both Mr Scott and his wife have a real eye for interior style, with Mrs Scott starting life as a fashion designer - quickly turning her design skills into interiors.
Mrs Scott told Nub News: "It started many years ago when I employed a company to complete an interior design project at my home.
"I wasn't happy so I set about learning the skills myself and learning how to make curtains which isn't that different from making clothes.
"The rest is history. I love interiors and creating beautiful spaces and homes for clients to live in and enjoy their lives."
It's this ability to design homes to match lifestyles and fit their purpose, which the couple enjoy.
At the Holmes Chapel showroom, visitors will find room sets, each combining different colours, fabrics and textures.
One has a 'relaxed tropical' feel, complete with a mix of oriental colours and items, including a huge statement mirror.
Mr Scott added: "Little changes can mean a lot. It's about installing things in the right place, at the right height and not having undersized accessories."
"Everything we do, it's designed to be lived in. Our house is stylish but practical. We have two dogs and family often visit."
"An island in the kitchen forms a focal point and so do stunning images bought during a memorable holiday to Mexico.
"We found them in a street market and brought them back to the UK. The expressions on the faces are incredible and light up the room."
