A major Crewe road is set to close in May for over three months - following a delay to the development.

Flag Lane, from Bridle Road to Richard Moon Street, will be fully closed from Monday 15 May for 14 weeks - with works expected to be completed around late August.

This road closure was initially anticipated to take place from January until April, following Scottish Power utility and maintenance works - but was then pushed back until May.

Upgrades to local footpaths, added cycle lanes and improved junction visibility will be included in the Flag Lane scheme (Ryan Parker).

The 14-week closure allows the 'Flag Lane Link' development to take place, connecting Flag Lane with Harrison Drive - through a new road.

Cheshire East Council has confirmed the Flag Lane Link closure on the roadworks and travel disruption section of its website.

A statement for Flag Lane, Crewe Link Road, reads: "The improvement works will start on 15 May for 14 weeks.

The 14-week closure allows the 'Flag Lane Link' development to take place, connecting Flag Lane with Harrison Drive - through a new road (Cheshire East Council).

"Works will include the installation of a new junction at the end of Harrison Drive to ease congestion and improve travel options into the town centre.

"Upgrades to local footpaths, added cycle lanes and improved junction visibility will be included.

"Works will be carried out under a full road closure between Bridle Road and Richard Moon Street including the junction of Flag Lane to Harrison Drive and St Mary's Street."

The Flag Lane Link project has been supported by the Future High Streets Fund (Ryan Parker).

The Flag Lane Link improvement works are part of Cheshire East's part plans to improve access to Crewe town centre - for pedestrians and cyclists as well as vehicles.

This Crewe road project has been supported by the Future High Streets Fund.
