Two more communications kiosks with integrated defibrillators and advertising displays have been proposed in Crewe, after two were recently installed in the town.

Applicant, Thomas Johnston, of New World Payphones (NWP), wants to install the new telephone boxes outside 259 Edleston Road and 127 Nantwich Road.

NWP replace ageing traditional phone boxes with modern kiosks, offering services like Wi-Fi, wayfinding and telephony.

New World Payphones have put up new kiosks on Nantwich Road and Market Street in Crewe (pictured), but are not yet active (Ryan Parker).

The new communication kiosks accept credit/debit card, contactless and cash payment.

New kiosks have popped up on Nantwich Road and Market Street in Crewe, that are no yet active, with another planned in Nantwich.

A planning statement reads: "New World Payphones (NWP Street Ltd), is modernising its telephone kiosk estate across the United Kingdom.

"The traditional kiosk is in need of updating to reflect the modern society that we live in.

The new defibrillators, installed with the kiosks, will be registered on the national defibrillator network, known as 'The Circuit' (Ryan Parker).

"NWP recognise legacy kiosks have historic problems including lack of access for wheelchair users, problems with calling cards, and often attract the use of anti-social behaviour.

"NWP have chosen a new modern design, reflecting the instantly recognisable telephone kiosk heritage, ensuring it provides open access for all.

"It is a robust construction made of stainless steel which will aid reduction of vandalism and assist with ease of maintenance.

"As a responsible telephone operator, NWP will also operate a high standard of cleaning on the new estate.

The New World Payphones kiosk will include an integrated defibrillator and advertising display (CEC Planning).

"The exposed nature of the proposed kiosk supports natural surveillance due eradicating the enclosed space and removing the doors.

"NWP is partnered with a charity working to support communities in the provision of defibrillators.

"Once installed, the defibrillator would be registered on the national defibrillator network, known as 'The Circuit,' the national defibrillator network, thereby ensuring its precise location is known to ambulance services."
