Tribute and messages of sympathy after fan dies following Crewe match

Tributes have been paid by the club and fellow supporters after a fan became ill at Crewe Alexandra's home match on Saturday (February 4) and later died. 

Following the EFL League Two match against Grimsby Town at Mornflake Stadium, Crewe Alexandra issued a statement on Sunday morning (February 5).

The statement read: "The club are deeply saddened to report that Chris Hagyard has died after falling ill at the stadium yesterday. 

"Chris was a loyal fan and valued member of the Crewe Alex family. He will be greatly missed. 

"Our thoughts are with Chris' family and friends at this difficult time."

Football fans have taken to social media to pay tribute and pass on messages of sympathy.
