Crewe Town Council has pledged its support by funding the Crewe Community First Responder Service.
Community First Responders are fully trained volunteer paramedics for the North West Ambulance Service Trust who are dispatched to emergency 999 calls.
In 80% of all incidents attended, a Community First Responder is first on scene spending on average 20 minutes alone with a patient prior to the arrival of an ambulance – over half of patients attended to have recovered after a cardiac event due to the swift response and then continued treatment by ambulance and hospital staff.
Community First Responders also lends additional hands-on support at more serious incidents.
Crewe volunteer paramedic, Darren Hall, has proved a lifesaver on many occasions since the service was established in 2020 providing on average 30–40 hours a week emergency response across Crewe.
During COVID-19, the service also lent support to the NHS carrying out welfare checks, testing and vaccinations to local residents
Crewe-born Darren said: "It's great to get backing once again from Crewe Town Council and we wouldn't have been able to continue the service without their support.
"I am thrilled to be able to give something back to my hometown by using my first aid training to increase a patient's chance of survival."
Cllr Tom Dunlop, Mayor of Crewe, said: "The Town Council is pleased to support the Crewe Community First Responder Service.
"When we heard of their work, there was no hesitation in getting behind the Service especially as emergency services are stretched more than ever."
