Three Crewe shops have been hit with one-star food hygiene ratings, according to recent Food Standard Agency (FSA) reports.

The FSA Food Hygiene Rating Scheme is aimed at helping people choose where to eat out or shop for food.

This scheme is in partnership with local authorities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

It gives businesses a rating from zero to five, displayed at their premises and online.

A one-star hygiene rating means "major improvement is necessary" for the business.

All information was taken from the Food Standard Agency website as of Thursday 6 August

• Asian Supermarket - 63-65 Nantwich Road - one star - (29 April, 2026)
• Burrows - 106 Earle Street - one star - (7 May, 2026)
• Sadaf Halal Market - 31 Mill Street - one star - (15 June, 2026)

A food safety officer from Cheshire East Council inspected the Crewe shops to check they were following food hygiene law and ensuring the food sold was safe to eat.

At all inspections, the officer checked the following three elements:

• Hygienic food handling
• Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building
• Management of food safety - major improvement necessary

It was judged 'major improvement necessary' for Asian Supermarket's hygienic food handling and management of food safety.

For Burrows and Sadaf Halal Market, it was judged 'improvement necessary' for their cleanliness and 'major improvement necessary' for management of food safety.
