Special Steampunk family event to come to Crewe town centre this weekend

A special Steampunk event is coming to a new Crewe town centre space this weekend, for the first family occasion of 2024.

Saturday 6 April sees the arrival of the Steampunk Hattrick, held on LY2 (Lyceum Square, opposite the Crewe Lyceum Theatre).

Crewe Creative Champions, with support from Cheshire East Council, Crewe Town Council, and Arts Council England, hope the event on LY2 will be the first of many to be held in and around Crewe throughout the year.

Saturday 6 April sees the arrival of the Steampunk Hattrick, held on LY2 (Lyceum Square, opposite the Crewe Lyceum Theatre) (Ryan Parker).

People are encouraged to come and enjoy a day of free, and fun, Steampunk inspired activities to not only see but to immerse yourself into. Activities include:

  • Walkabout performances
  • Steampunk fashion show and competition hat parade
  • Hula hooping at Ly2 and craft workshop at Crewe Library
  • Go around the town in 80 minutes in a Jules Verne/Steampunk inspired heritage trail
  • The Ada Nield Chew exhibition
  • Photo opportunities

A Crewe Town Council spokesperson told Nub News: "We are delighted to support residents and volunteers to champion creativity and to realise the potential of the town, particularly on LY2, as a free heritage and entertainment attraction."

The Steampunk Hattrick is a teaser for a much larger event to take place later in the summer.

People are encouraged to come and enjoy a day of free, and fun, Steampunk inspired activities (Crewe Town Council).

Event volunteer and the host of the "Around the town in 80 minutes" tour, Ben Wye, said "We encourage families to participate in the fashion shows, craft and walking activities in order to build a 'head of steam' for future events.

"Bring your own experience and creativity to the day; this is not a passive performance.

"I will be escorting conversations about some of the Victorian characters that shaped the town and look forward to hearing your stories about colourful residents of the past."

Crewe Steampunk Hattrick - Event Timings

  • Hats Workshop (At Crewe Library) - 11am to 1pm
  • Steampunk Fashion Show: - 1:15pm to 1:30pm
  • Gather for the Hat Parade - 1:45pm
  • Hat Parade - 2pm to 2:30pm
  • Maisie (Singer) - 11:45am to 12:30pm and 3pm to 3:45pm
  • Angie (Hula Hooping workshop) - 11:15am to 11:45am, 12:30pm to 1pm and 2:30pm to 3pm
  • Contrivance (from Circus Fudge) - 11am to 11:30am, 1pm to 1:30pm and 2:30pm to 3pm
  • Ben Wye (Around the Town in 80 Minutes) - 11:30am to 12:40pm and 1:30pm to 2:40pm
  • Cat Radio - 11am to 4pm
  • Ada Nield Chew exhibition - 11am to 4pm
  • Steampunk Hat making (Crewe Library) – 11am to 1pm

Music with Maisie is peforming twice at LY2 as part of the Steampunk Hattrick event on Saturday 6 April (Music with Maisie).

The Cat Radio team and singers will bring visitors live entertainment on the day.

Anyone attending the craft workshops can makes their steampunk hat, participate in the hat trick competition & parade, and even win a prize.
