Drunk Crewe man charged after assaulting police officer at Nantwich Jazz Festival

A Crewe man has been charged with being drunk and disorderly and assaulting a police officer at Nantwich Jazz Festival, with him set to appear in court next month.

On Easter Sunday (March 31), Cheshire Police officers on patrol in Nantwich were approached by an 'intoxicated' man.

The man was immediately verbally abusive to police, threatening an officer, before assaulting him.

Stephen Warburton was immediately verbally abusive to police, threatening an officer, before assaulting him (Cheshire Police).

Stephen Warburton, 48, from Marshfield Avenue, was arrested at the scene.

The local man is now due to appear at Crewe Magistrates' Court on Thursday 2 May.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "At around 9.30pm, Sunday 31 March, an intoxicated male approached officers who were patrolling the Nantwich Jazz Festival in town.

"He became immediately verbally abusive, threatening an officer and then assaulting him.

"The male was physically restrained and arrested.

Stephen Warburton, 48, from Marshfield Avenue is set to appear at Crewe Magistrates' Court on Thursday 2 May (Nub News).

"Stephen Warburton, 48, from Marshfield Avenue, Crewe, has been charged with assaulting an emergency worker and being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

"He is due to appear at Crewe Magistrates' Court on Thursday 2 May."
