TV star and singer excited to perform 'popular' Christmas panto in Crewe
By Ryan Parker 6th Dec 2024
A ITV star and singer is raring to perform at the "beautiful" Crewe Lyceum's 2024 Christmas pantomime, launching in the town this December.
The Chase's Jenny Ryan (The Vixen) is starring in Beauty and The Beast, running from Friday 13 December to Sunday 5 January.
Playing 'The Enchantress,' at Crewe Lyceum, Jenny will be joined alongside Crewe panto favourites Malcolm Lord and Ste Johnston.
Jenny told Nub News: "This is a very popular and well-respected panto. We have a great cast, rehearsals are going really well and it will be great to get Beauty and the Beast out there to the people of Crewe.
"Crewe Lyceum Theatre is absolutely beautiful. I am a big fan of traditional theatres and this one has been so well kept.
"You can tell Crewe Lyceum is loved by both the people who work here and the local community. It is great to be here.
"The enchantress is an interesting character. She is not quite a villain or the goodest of good fairies.
"She wants to see the best of the prince so she casts the spell on him to teach him a lesson.
"It does take him a while to learn, but as fans of the fairytale know, he does learn eventually. I just need to push him to be the best prince he can be.
In October 2019, Jenny began competing in The X Factor: Celebrity, going on to finish in third place.
Jenny said: "I love a bit of performing as an outlet really. Singing has always been something I do to let off steam and use as an anti-depressant.
"It just so happens people seem to love hearing my voice. Being offered panto was a great opportunity to get out there, try something new and challenge myself.
"Thankfully, I don't think my colleagues would say I stand out as an amateur. I think I fit in with all the professionals here and we can have a bit of fun when we are out there.
"The cast here are absolutely great, they are a lovely bunch of people who are making me feel most welcome.
"It is great to be here, particularly with Malcolm and Ste who are established favourites in this panto.
"Everyone starring in Beauty and the Beast in Crewe is talented and fun. Everyone takes the job seriously but not themselves.
"This is what you need to do for panto, you need to have that sense of silliness and a sense of fun.
"It has been a lovely experience rehearsing so far and hopefully that will reflect in the show itself."
Jenny, who has starred in The Chase since 2015, attended Crewe's 2024 Christmas Lights Switch-on event, labelling the occasion as "joyful."
She said: "It was great to see all the young people at the switch-on, who will hopefully be coming along to the show and might experience theatre for the first time.
"Theatre is something for everybody. It is not scary, it is a collaborative experience between the audience and the cast.
"Come along, join in and get inspired. There are roles for everybody so the kids that come might be on stage in 10 to 20 years picking up Oscars. Who knows.
"There is something very magical about theatre. As someone who went a lot to theatre as a little kids, I think it is something everybody should be able to experience.
"It is such a great entry into the world of live performance, There is music, magic, the chance to shout out and you can make noise.
"We love to hear you so come along and shout at us. See you soon Crewe."
