Crewe's Cumberland Arena set to reopen after major 'transformation'
By Ryan Parker 2nd Oct 2026
Cumberland Arena in Crewe will reopen on Monday 12 October, following a major redevelopment transforming the venue into a new community hub.
Everybody Health and Leisure, in partnership with Cheshire East Council and using Government Local Regeneration Fund funding, has overseen the Cumberland transformation.
The arena now features a new artificial 3G pitch, fully equipped gym, covered spectator stand, additional car parking and secure cycle shelters.
There will also be inclusive cycling activities and three new multi-purpose studios for fitness classes, community activities and targeted health and wellbeing programmes.
CEO of Everybody Health and Leisure, Thomas Barton, said: "We're excited to welcome the community back to Cumberland Arena this October.
"The transformed venue is much more than a sports facility. It is a place where people can get active, improve their health, learn new skills, meet new people and enjoy a wide range of community activities.
"We look forward to seeing Cumberland Arena become a thriving hub for local residents, clubs and organisations in Crewe."

The new gym will offer health-focused daytime access alongside evening membership, while Everybody Health and Leisure will deliver programmes including One You Cheshire East, Active Lives, Re-shape, Be Smoke Free and Stand Strong.
The venue will also host community learning opportunities, health workshops and development programmes, alongside meeting, event, business function and private hire space.
Cabinet member for housing, planning and regeneration, Cllr Mick Warren, said: "The reopening marks the beginning of a new chapter for Cumberland Arena and represents a major investment in local facilities and the health and wellbeing of our communities.
"The arena is now a really modern and welcoming facility, and a further example of Crewe's ongoing regeneration programme being delivered."
The next phase will begin in spring 2027 when the athletics track is re-laid.
Chair of Crewe Town Board, which oversees projects supported by the Local Regeneration Fund in Crewe, Tony Davison, said: "The transformation of this much-loved community asset has been significant, and it is great news for the town and wider area that these new facilities can now be enjoyed.
"I look forward to the second stage of the arena's development being completed next year, and to seeing this investment leave a lasting legacy for the town."
The investment comes alongside plans have for new padel courts near the Crewe sports track.
The arena's official opening will take place in December once the final finishing touches have been completed.
