Plans have been put forward for a new padel courts development, located at Crewe's Cumberland Arena, currently under redevelopment.

Applicant, Everybody Health & Leisure, has submitted proposals on behalf of the Thomas Street outdoor sports and communal facility.

Everybody Health & Leisure wants to construct three padel courts and canopies, along with associated pedestrian access and an acoustic barrier to the southern boundary.

The padel courts will be located on a grassed area, east of Sheppard Close and adjacent to the athletics track, set for a £500,000 upgrade.

For decades, the facilities at Cumberland Arena have been a focal point for sport in Crewe, supporting generations of runners, jumpers and throwers, from their first experience of athletics through to county and national competition.

The venue, operated by Everybody Health & Leisure in partnership with Cheshire East Council, is used by schools, community groups and clubs from across South Cheshire and plays a key role in promoting health, wellbeing and opportunity.

The proposed padel courts are the latest piece in a wider project to modernise and expand the facilities at the arena.

This includes a new artificial 3G pitch, community activities, a new covered spectator stand, more car parking and secure cycle shelters.

The last date for submitting comments is Wednesday 23 September, with a target decision date of Tuesday 20 October.
