Crewe town centre business makes 'difficult decision' to close this spring
A Crewe town centre cheese and wine business has confirmed it will permanently close this spring, due to "ongoing challenges" with footfall and sales.
The Cheese Corner, Crewe Market Hall, will cease trading on Sunday 2 March, with no plans to open any further premises.
Operated by Oliver Bailey and supported by Hazel and Lucas since January 2024, The Cheese Corner has been operating in Crewe Market Hall since August 2022.
Trading seven days a week, The Cheese Corner offers a wide selection of local British cheeses and wines, cheese/grazing boards, toasties and breakfast options.
This January, The Cheese Corner confirmed its imminent closure, thanking customers and staff for helping them on its "incredible journey" in Crewe.
The Cheese Corner said: "It is with heavy heart we announce the closure of The Cheese Corner.
"After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to close due to the ongoing challenges with footfall and sales in Crewe town centre.
"Since launching in August 2022, we have had the privilege of sharing an incredible journey with you all.
"This past year especially has been a testament to what passion, teamwork, and community can achieve.
"From our cheese and wine tasting events to attending external markets, collaborating with amazing local businesses, and introducing a world of cheese to so many of you, it has been an unforgettable adventure.
"We are incredibly proud of what we've accomplished and deeply grateful for the support you've shown us along the way.
"To our wonderful team, thank you for your hard work, creativity, and the fun you brought to every moment.
"And to our customers, thank you for embracing our vision and bringing so much joy to The Cheese Corner – you made it all worthwhile.
"Our last day of trading will be Sunday 2 March, and we would love to see as many of you as possible before we close.
"Let is make these final weeks a celebration of the community, flavour, and memories we have built together.
"To our incredible suppliers, thank you for helping us bring the best British cheeses to the local market and supporting us every step of the way.
"Though this chapter is coming to an end, the memories, successes, and friendships we have made will always remain. Thank you for being such an important part of our story and who knows, never say never."
The Cheese Corner is now offering 25 per cent off all cheese and wine purchases until closure. There is also a sale on all accompaniments, with up to 40 per cent off full price.
It was envisaged The Cheese Corner would reopen in Nantwich, but the business has been unable to find a new "suitable" local venue.
Oliver told Nub News:" Unfortunately, we don't currently have any plans as a business to open any further premises.
"This is due to being unable to find an alternative, suitable venue within the local area.
"We had considered options further afield, however wanting to remain in the local area was key for The Cheese Corner to retain its heritage to owner and local cheese manufacturer Joseph Heler Ltd of Nantwich.
"We are running 25 per cent off all cheese and wine purchases running up to our closure and this sale offer is subject to product availability.
"We are also running a promotion on all accompaniments with up to 40 per cent off full price."
The Cheese Corner is open 9.30am to 1.30pm (Monday and Tuesday), 9.30am to 6pm (Wednesday), 9.30am to 9pm (Thursday), 9.30am to 10pm (Friday and Saturday) and 10.30am to 6pm (Sunday).
