RESIDENTS in Shavington, Weston and Wychwood are showcasing Advent from their front windows.

The villages have got into the Christmas spirit by hosting a community Advent trail to mark the countdown to Christmas.

Nearly 130 windows have been decked out in a range of designs from traditional Christmas scenes to Doctor Who and ones of familiar toys like the Gonks.

Sara Randle, children and families worker for All Saints' Church in Weston and St Mark's Church in Shavington, has organised the event.

She said: "Last year we decided to start the Advent trail as a Christmas event that the community could look forward to.

"We were overwhelmed by the response and as soon as the trail finished people were talking about ideas of what they might do for this year. It looks like this is now an annual event.

"The windows are very individual and people have chosen their own designs."

The Rev Rachael Griffiths said: "The enthusiasm has just been fantastic. We are delighted that so many people have supported our church event and shown real community spirit."

If you would like to view the windows you can download maps of the trail here, at the All Saints' & St Mark's Church website, or you can collect printed versions from outside either St Mark's Church or All Saints Church.

The trails run until Christmas Eve.
