CREWE is to host two separate Remembrance Services this year, including an event for the younger generation.
Last year's Remembrance Sunday was cancelled because of the pandemic, although councillors and members of the Crewe branch of the Royal British Legion did attend a low-key gathering on Memorial Square to lay wreaths, including those donated by the community.
This year's return will see two Remembrance Services held, one on Thursday, November 11 and the other on Remembrance Sunday, which falls on November 14.
The Thursday service has been organised to provide an opportunity for young people from Crewe to be actively engaged within the traditional commemorations.
Schools and colleges have been invited to send representatives to attend for the service at 10.30am, which will be followed by a two-minute silence at 11am.
The initiative is the idea of Crewe Town Council and the RBL and the council's heritage officer is advising schools on learning resources to support Remembrance.
The Sunday Service begins with a parade starting at 10.20am from underneath the old Library/Civic Centre and on across to Memorial Square.
After the two-minute silence at 11am there will be a wreath-laying ceremony. Members of the public can lay their own wreaths at the end of the formal service.
To buy a wreath you can contact Paul Fox at the Crewe Royal British Legion by Friday (October 22) via email [email protected].
