A 38-year-old man from Crewe has been handed a five-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) - in a bid to curb his persistent offending.

In a bid to deter Quinlan from committing further offences, officers from Crewe Beat Team applied for a CBO.

The order was granted at Chester Crown Court on Friday (November 11).

It means the 38-year-old is now banned from entering Crewe town centre and Grand Junction Retail Park for the next five years.

Quinlan is not allowed to be under the influence of any drunk or drugs in any public place.

Sergeant Steve Tandy, of Crewe Local Policing Unit, said: "Daniel Quinlan is a persistent shoplifter who blatantly steals in order to fund his addictions.

"While we have previously attempted to engage with him, there comes a point when you have to say enough is enough and take additional action to protect stores.

"The ongoing financial crisis has had a significant impact on businesses and the last thing that shops in Crewe need is to continue to be targeted by a serial shoplifter like Quinlan.

"CBOs are preventative orders with strict restrictions that are imposed in a bid to stop persistent offenders committing further crimes.

The sanctions imposed for breaching a CBO can be severe - with the maximum penalty being five years in prison (Crewe Police).

"They are applied for separately to prosecutions for criminal offences as a last resort.

"I am pleased to say that we have seen a significant reduction of offending in Cheshire from those who are subject to a CBO.

"It is an offence to breach the terms of a CBO.
