A section of a major road in Crewe has closed until the end of November, with traffic chaos already reported by motorists. (*These works have since been pulled by Cheshire East Council).

Weston Road, between Weston Road Service Road and Savoy Road/Weston Road Roundabout, is now closed westbound until Saturday 29 November.

The Crewe East road closed at 8.30am on Monday 20 October, allowing the installation of a rising main and foul outfall connection.

Motorists have hit out at the traffic issues following the closure, with some saying no warning was given.

One local resident said: "Took 30 minutes to get off Crewe Gates Industrial Estate last night [October 20]."

A local woman said: "It is horrendous, gridlock."

The alternative route during the closure is via Savoy Road/Weston Road Roundabout, University Way, Crewe Green Roundabout, Crewe Green Road, Crewe Green Road Roundabout, Crewe Road, Nantwich Road Roundabout, Weston Road and vice versa.

Another resident said: "Caught up in this earlier, no road closed signs on the Crewe Arms Roundabout, no information until you get to the closure and then turnaround."
