A second 'pocket park' project in Crewe has benefitted from a major refurbishment, reopening in the town this week.

Derby Docks Play Area is the second of four parks along with McLaren Street (completed), School Crescent and Queen Street, being overhauled across the next six weeks.

These developments will provide more accessibility for residents, with the total investment in these four parks totalled at almost £825,000, with the government's Towns Fund providing £425,000.

The official reopening event at Derby Docks was held on Wednesday 10 April, with Crewe Labour councillor, Dawn Clark, cutting the ribbon (Cheshire East Council).

This park has benefitted from a new play area and a multi-use games facility, with the overall area tidied up and modernised.

Chairman of Crewe Town Board, Tony Davison, who attended the reopening, told Nub News: "I am delighted to see Derby Docks Play Area reopen following a major refurbishment with new equipment.

"It looks really good. There is a new safe floor and a refreshed MUGA, with new fencing that is smart and clean.

"There was loads of work around around the play area to cut back overgrown bushes and tidy the surrounding area up.

"Derby Docks Play Area now offers a modern play facility for local residents to enjoy.

"This development, along with the completed refurbishment of McLaren Street Play Area this month I really good news or the town.

"Small pocket parks in Crewe had not been done for many years, which had started to looked old and downtrodden.

"This new lease of life for the park will hopefully lead to more children and families using the upgraded facilities."

In total, eight pocket parks in Crewe will become more attractive and better equipped spaces for people to spend time, play and enjoy physical activity.

The reopening of Derby Docks 'pocket park' comes after McLaren Street was completed at the beginning of April (Cheshire East Council).

Cheshire East will soon be consulting on Samuel Street and Lime Tree Avenue pocket parks, with engagement about Valley Park and Westminster Street parks set for 2025.
