13 local schoolchildren have helped plant the seeds of a greener future at a major development in Crewe.

Pupils from a primary school's Eco Club and Eco Ambassadors visited WestonM6 on Wednesday 21 October to take part in a hands-on bulb-planting activity.

The children learned about the site's history, landscaping and plans to support biodiversity as the development continues to take shape.

Working alongside members of the project team, the pupils planted bulbs which are expected to flower in spring 2027.

The activity brought together representatives from developer Muse, CW Architecture, Wrights Landscapes and Luddon Construction.

WestonM6 is a major commercial and business park development between the A500 and David Whitby Way, in Crewe's emerging Basford East neighbourhood.

The wider project is planned to provide more than 1.3 million square feet of industrial, logistics and office space, with the potential to create thousands of jobs.

Green space is also a key part of the development, with a 26-acre biodiversity habitat being created alongside infrastructure works.

The wider site includes plans for 53 acres of green space, including wetlands, parks and 3.4km of paths for local residents, workers and visitors to enjoy.

Senior development manager at Muse, Sarah Chicken, told Nub News: "It was a pleasure to welcome the children to WestonM6.

"They were incredibly enthusiastic and it was great to see them getting involved in the planting and learning more about the site's history and biodiversity.

"Landscaping and green space are integral to our approach at WestonM6, having been considered from the very beginning.

"Alongside creating space for nature, we want to ensure the local community can continue to enjoy and benefit from the green spaces around them.

"It was lovely to give the children a hands-on role in shaping this environment, and we look forward to seeing the bulbs come into flower in the months ahead."

The planting activity forms part of the project's wider approach to incorporating nature into the Crewe commercial development from the outset, rather than adding green spaces once construction is complete.

As the bulbs begin to flower next spring, the children's contribution will become part of the evolving landscape.
