A popular Mediterranean restaurant in Crewe has reopened following a major refurbishment, with Crewe Nub News checking out its modern, inviting interior and tempting multi-course deal.

Ego at The Fox, on Crewe Road, Haslington, reopened in July after closing for a full refresh in early June.

The restaurant says the refurbishment has brought "a considered transformation that reflects the warmth, charm and timeless flavours of the Mediterranean".

And it certainly feels like a big facelift.

Inside, the restaurant is bright, modern and much more polished, while still retaining a comfortable pub feel. The new décor gives the dining area a more upmarket feel without becoming too formal.

But it is the Dine Out with Ego deal that caught my attention.

There are two courses for £18.95 or three courses for £23.95, making it a particularly good-value way to try the menu.

The offer is available Monday to Thursday all day, and Friday and Saturday until 5pm. Ego Club Rewards members can also get an additional 20 per cent off on Wednesdays.

I went for the calamari fritti to start, with paprika-floured squid and roasted garlic aioli. The calamari was nicely presented and made for a good start.

For the main course, I chose the mixed kebab (£3 supplement), which comes with spiced lamb rump, chicken and pork loin, alongside flatbread and fresh Greek salad.

It was easily one of the standout dishes visually. The meat arrives stacked vertically on a skewer, with the different pieces of meat making for an impressive centrepiece on the table.

There is plenty of choice across the main menu too, including Moroccan lamb, paella, pan-roasted chicken suprême, king prawn and chilli linguine and an 8oz sirloin steak with tomato, mushroom, onion rings and fries.

For dessert, I went for three scoops of Jude's Farm raspberry sorbet. It was sweet, fruity and a good way to finish the meal.

The service also deserves a mention. Staff were polite, friendly and attentive throughout the visit.

I even witnessed a team member being trained during my visit. It was handled very professionally, with clear guidance and plenty of support, refreshing to see.
