A safe accommodation service in Crewe is offering a lifeline to people fleeing domestic abuse, providing somewhere secure to stay while they begin rebuilding their lives.

YMCA Cheshire provides specialist domestic abuse support and safe accommodation across Cheshire East (including Crewe), in partnership with Cheshire East Council.

The service is designed for individuals and families experiencing domestic abuse, with safety, personal circumstances and individual choices placed at the centre of the support provided.

Domestic abuse can take many forms and is not always physical.

It can include threats, humiliation, controlling someone's money, monitoring their phone or movements, and cutting them off from friends and family.

People do not have to be certain that what they are experiencing is abuse before asking for help.

YMCA Cheshire offers self-contained safe accommodation, giving residents their own private living space, including kitchen and bathroom facilities, while they receive specialist support.

It also provides dispersed accommodation in homes across Cheshire East for families who need to move away from an abusive situation.

Each household has its own private home, with accommodation matched as closely as possible to their needs and circumstances, with safety the priority.

The exact locations of the accommodation are kept confidential to protect residents.

In the year ending March 2025, an estimated 3.8 million people aged 16 and over in England and Wales experienced domestic abuse, around one in 13 adults.

YMCA Cheshire is urging anyone experiencing domestic abuse, or worried about someone else, to seek support.

Help is available through the Cheshire East Domestic Abuse Family Safety Unit on 0300 123 5101, when it is safe to do so.

Anyone in immediate danger should call 999.
