Residents object to another HMO on Crewe street as violence and crime increases

Residents are objecting to plans to convert a Crewe family home into a house in multiple occupation, with some claiming crime and violence has rocketed since other properties became HMOs.
San San Tay has applied to Cheshire East Council for permission to convert 13 Heathfield Avenue into a six-bed HMO.
The applicant says the works to the house will be internal, with no external changes.

But, residents say there are too many HMOs in the area and this has led to anti-social behaviour, parking and traffic problems as well as overflowing bins.
One resident who has objected to Cheshire East, said: "The crime and violence in the street has increased since their (HMO) arrival (cars burnt out, police cordoning off the street etc) with an increase in anti-social behaviour.
"The community we fight hard for is wrecked by these HMOs and the houses on each side have to put up with all the noise.
"There is also more noise in the street especially at night from the existing ones and this will make it worse."
Another resident said: "If a six-person HMO is created and they all have cars where are they going to park?"
"We are currently experiencing issues regarding waste at a HMO currently in the street.

"This is down to bins overflowing and not being emptied, household items left out on the street… Another HMO will only add to this issue."
Crewe Central councillor, Roger Morris (Conservative), has objected to the proposal, citing many of the reasons raised by the residents as well as the loss of family housing.
He said: "Local residents have raised long-standing concerns about noise, disruption, and anti-social behaviour associated with existing HMOs.
"The transient nature of occupants in such properties can make it difficult to foster stable community relations.
"Another HMO on the street risks further undermining residential amenity and social cohesion."

Crewe Town Council has also written to Cheshire East opposing the proposal.
Among its reasons for objection are the detrimental impact of too many HMOs in one area, the lack of off street parking and overdevelopment of the property.
The last date for submitting comments is Thursday 24 April with a target decision date around that time.
