VETERANS from the Royal British Legion will ensure Remembrance is still marked in Crewe despite the lockdown.
While Crewe Town Council and the RBL have had to scrap plans for a limited socially-distanced service following the national announcement, the serviceman will lay wreaths in Memorial Square on Sunday.
Other Remembrance events have been scheduled for online showings in recent weeks.
Wistaston Memorial Hall are hosting an online service on YouTube and Facebook. They can be viewed on Facebook and on YouTube here on the day.
Cheshire East Council is also hosting a virtual service where viewers will be able to see a wreath being laid by Cheshire East Mayor Barry Burkhill and hear a reading from the mayor's chaplain Rev Ralph Kemp, while there will be a recital of the Act of Remembrance.
Crewe North councillor Jill Rhodes said: "I am very pleased that we have been able to put on a service to honour our fallen servicemen and women. It is absolutely right that we hold an event in spite of the challenges that we face in doing so."
And Cheshire East Council Armed Forces champion Cllr Ashley Farrall added: "I would encourage everyone to not only watch our virtual service but to carry out their own act of remembrance safely in their own homes.
"These are very testing times but for all that it is true to say this, it is very important that we honour those who gave their lives in order that we can enjoy the freedoms we have now. We shall remember them."
The virtual service is available to view on the council's YouTube channel by going here.
Crewe Town Council says the RBL will collect wreaths that have been dropped off at the council's town centre office and take them to Memorial Square.
"There will be no service of any kind on Memorial Square," stressed a spokesman. "Members of the public may lay their own wreaths at a time of their choosing, but they are reminded to observe social distancing and lockdown rules."
The council had planned a Remembrance Sunday service with limited numbers and a small civic party attended by limited numbers.
But it hopes people will join in with the Doorstep Remembrance Campaign and stand outside their homes in silence for two minutes at 11am on Sunday (November 8).
Crewe Town Mayor Cllr Ben Minshall said: "As much as we would love for the town to come together on Memorial Square we are strongly encouraging as many people as possible to take part in the Doorstep Remembrance Campaign."
