The multi-storey car park in Crewe has now re-opened after being closed for emergency repairs following an attack by vandals over the weekend.

Cheshire East Council was forced to close the town centre car park on Monday 28 October after the exit shutters were vandalised over the weekend by yobs.

The damage has now been repaired and it is fully open as of Tuesday 29 October.

Cheshire East Council was forced to close the town centre car park on Monday 28 October after the exit shutters were vandalised over the weekend by yobs (LDRS).

On Monday, a Cheshire East Council spokesperson told the LDRS: "The Crewe town centre car park is currently closed due to the exit shutters being vandalised over the weekend.

"Third party contractors are currently on-site assessing the extent of the damage caused. We hope to reopen the car park as soon as possible."

The £11m car park is currently only open from Monday to Saturday because the cash-strapped council can't afford to operate it seven days a week.

The 390-space multi-storey, which opened at the end of July, is currently bringing in just £75 a day in parking charges.

That isn't profit because the council has not yet revealed how much it costs to run it.

Cheshire East said that, in its first two months of opening, just 3,235 vehicles used the multi-storey.

Around £3,600 was raised in parking charges during those first two months.
