A Crewe park play area redevelopment has been completed following months of work on the site - and £100k grant funding.
Lansdowne Road Park play area, Sydney, was officially opened by Crewe Town Mayor, Cllr Nan Walton yesterday at 4pm (June 15).
Crewe Town Council assigned £100,000 of its annual budget towards the Sydney park project - following community feedback last August.
Feedback from local residents suggested to the council Lansdowne Road was a priority site.
Public responses were received from residents of all ages, including members of the Sydney Road Resident's Association and pupils from local schools.
Partners of Crewe Town Council, Ansa Environmental Services, designed and installed the new play area.
Ansa selected the design and equipment from a number of competitive submissions.
Residents requested the following features, which have all been incorporated into the final design:
- Inclusive equipment
- Toddler apparatus
- Teen equipment
- Accessibility
- Soft surfaces
Cllr Nan Walton cut a ribbon to officially open the park in an informal ceremony, she was joined by Ansa and local residents.
The Crewe Town Mayor said: "It is a pleasure to be able to formally announce that the park is now open for the community to use.
"The park looks brilliant and will give a lot of joy to children in the local area."
The park has been 'zoned' into toddler and junior areas and also features a zip wire and a central picnic seating space.
Lansdowne Road park is to be used by young people aged from one to 15.
Joan Christensen of the Sydney Road Resident's Association said: "The park is looking good, it's so nice to hear the children playing in the park from my garden."
Crewe Town Council says it has committed a further £100,000 to play area investment for Crewe in 2022/3.
It hopes to fund a full play area refurbishment every year.
A Crewe Town Council spokesperson told Nub News: "As the council moves forward with future play area refurbishments, the priority will continue to be given to play areas that have been assessed to be in poor condition and have not received recent funding.
"We will take into account Cheshire East's plans for investment to avoid duplication and will seek to improve as many sites as possible around the town."
For the next park project, the council says it will again ask the local community for assistance in creating a design and wish list.
Cllr Jamie Messent, Chair of the Operations and Improvement Committee, said: "Crewe Town Council is proud of the work that we have funded on the playground installation at Lansdowne Road Park.
"We know that the park is well-used by the local community and we hope that it will be a welcome addition to the local area and enhance the park space, encouraging our local community to spend time in the park.
"The installation was hampered at the start of the installation work because of a combination of bad weather and the impact of COVID. We are delighted that the work has now been completed."
The Lansdowne Road Park equipment is now owned by Cheshire East Council. It will be maintained by Ansa.
