The Peacock Railway held £1 train rides last weekend - much to the enjoyment of visitors from Crewe, Nantwich and further afield.

The train rides took place on the afternoon of Sunday (June 12) - last weekend.

The event was organised by South Cheshire Model Engineering Society.

It took place on their premises at the rear of The Peacock Inn, Crewe Road, Willaston, Nantwich.

There were miniature-gauge steam and battery electric (diesel body) train rides on the 5-inch railway track - almost a quarter of a mile in length.

Rides were £1, with contactless payment available. This helped to raise vital funds for the Society.

The train rides took place in sunny and dry weather. They were enjoyed by numerous visitors from across the local area.

The next train rides event comes later this month on Sunday June (26).

It will be held from 12pm until 3pm. Other events are planned through the Summer.

The Society is also building a Gauge 1 railway adjacent to their current tracks.

Gauge 1 is built on 45mm track width, so locomotives are usually 300mm (12 inches) long.

The locos are steam powered running on gas, meths or coal.

They pull scale length trains and can be radio controlled.

The cost of entry into this gauge is a lot less than the larger steam locos that the Society runs on its main track.

The Society have already excavated the ground and will start to build an elevated track in the near future.
