Popular Crewe business proves big hit at Comic Con event - meeting Netflix series star

A popular Crewe business was a big hit at the Comic Con Liverpool event - almost selling out on stock and meeting a Netflix series star.

Wattalotta Sweets, Crewe Market Hall, traded at Comic Con Liverpool from Saturday (November 19) to Sunday (November 20).

The Crewe town centre business expanded to a bigger store inside Crewe Market Hall this April - following its initial opening in December 2021.

Wattalotta Sweetz expanded its Crewe Market Hall in April this year (Crewe Nub News).

Wattalotta Sweets enjoyed its time at Comic Con Liverpool - trying this event for the first time.

"The event was a sell out and was such a good experience - we've never been to anything like this before, said joint-owner, Tom Watson.

A number of celebrities were at Comic Con Liverpool, including: Paul Wesley (The Vampire Diaries), Ian Somerhalder, Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), Ryan Hurst, Emilio Riveram and Giancarlo Esposito.

Paul Anderson, Luke Evans, the Cobra Kai cast and the Twilight cast were also at the event.

Mr Watson told Nub News: "Monopoly events put on such a good show and they had so many celebrities there."

"They had loads of props from film sets They really went in with everything they did.

"A lot of the spectators dressed up in cosplay - it was fantastic to see so many people making the effort.

"We met so many other traders who were helpful and made new connections - it's like one big massive family. Everyone looks out for each other."

After the two-day Comic Con Liverpool event, Wattalotta Sweets came home with close to zero stock left.

Mr Watson said: "We did amazing with it being our first Comic Con event. We came back with pretty much zero stock.

"They sold over 30 thousand tickets so we knew it was going to be busy.

"It was non-stop from when the doors opened at 8am until it closed at 6pm.

"There were even local people who knew us from Crewe that came and bought sweets.

"It felt amazing to be involved in such a big event and get our name out there far and wide."

"We had good feedback from people who came and bought sweets from us.

20-year-old American actor, Gaten Matarazo, attended Comic Con Liverpool. He plays character Dustin Henderson in Stranger Things (Crewe Nub News).

Perhaps the most famous celebrity at the event was Netflix series star, Gaten Matarazzo.

Wattalotta Sweetz managed to get a selfie with the star- despite him selling out tickets.

Mr Watson added: "On the last day, we were packing away and loading the car up when I saw Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson) walk past me.

"I asked him if we could have a selfie, and he said yes. I was shocked as he was one of the busiest guests there.

"He was sold out to have a picture with guests so I was over the moon to get a picture with him.

"We have booked ourselves on to all the future events that Monopoly Events put on so expect to see us at more Comic Cons in the future."
