A British fashion retailer has received a boost in opening on Crewe's Grand Junction Retail Park - after having its new store signage proposals approved.

Matalan submitted a planning application in May to construct illuminated signage at a vacant Grand Junction Retail Park unit.

Yesterday (September 6), Cheshire East Planning approved this application with conditions.

The unit Matalan want to take was previously occupied by Harvey's Furniture (Cheshire East Planning).

The unit Matalan want to take was previously occupied by Harvey's Furniture - it officially went into administration in June 2020.

Currently, the closest Matalan store to Crewe is Woodland Street, Stoke-on-Trent - 12 miles away.

As of April 2021, the British fashion and homeware retailer has 230 UK stores - employing approximately 13,000 people.

The approved illuminated signage proposals for Matalan's new Crewe store were submitted by Sapphire, - a signage company based in Kingston Upon Hull, East Yorkshire.

The last day for submitting comments on the Matalan signage proposals was June 30 (Cheshire East Planning).

This approval allows the construction of five internally illuminated face box signs and one internally illuminated goalpost tray.

The assigned case officer concluded: "The adverts would not cause harm to the visual amenity of the area of public safety issues, and as such should be approved."

Matalan is yet to have a larger mezzanine floor granted for the unit. This proposal from November 2021 is still pending.
