A WATER course near a planned new Crewe housing development is being blighted by fly-tipping.
Parts of old motorbikes, prams, car tyres, shopping trolleys and other waste have been dumped into Leighton Brook, angering local residents, conservationists and walkers.
A resident of Rolls Avenue, who contacted Nub News with pictures of the waste dumping, says the debri may have caused flooding which affected Minshull New Road several times last summer.
He says it may have left the water of the brook with a "bluish turbid colouration and smelling of sewage".
Planning permission has been given for a 400-housing scheme on farmland north of Leighton Brook as part of the large-scale North West Crewe Package, which will also see new road development in the area.
The resident, who didn't wish to be named, says he has contacted Cheshire East Council several times about the fly-tipping and pollution, but no action has yet been taken.
He said: "Last June the brook flooded beyond the top boundary and also further down stream, blocking Minshull New Road several times.
"That flooding cannot be helped by the fact that the brook and culverts are partially blocked not only by fly-tipped waste and litter, but also fallen trees and bushes. The area is simply neglected and is in a disgusting state."
Concerns have also been raised over wildlife habitats in the area as well as the erosion of a footpath and the lack of litter or dog bins next to the brook.
"These issues need to be addressed and not simply neglected," added the resident. "While I am not against the building of the new homes, I do think it is a shame this occurs where problems are overlooked when they should be addressed as part of the caring for the environment and community where the developments are taking place."
Pictures of the fly-tipping and neglect at Leighton Brook can be seen above.
Cheshire East Council says it has forwarded complaints about the issue to ANSA, its waste and recycling services arm.
Fly-tipping problems can be reported to the authority here.
